Needs Assessment Among People Living With HIV/AIDS in San Francisco

Working with the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Ryan White CARE Title I HIV Health Services Planning Council, and in collaboration with Partnership for Community Health, LFA conducted a comprehensive service needs assessment among people living with HIV/AIDS in San Francisco. The needs assessment surveyed met and unmet service needs, as well as barriers to accessing services and strategies for overcoming those barriers, and analyzed service market/provider capacity to fill identified gaps in services.

Prevention for Positives Assessment

The San Francisco Department of Public Health AIDS Office has contracted with LFA to conduct a city-wide assessment of HIV prevention services that target HIV+ individuals. Traditionally, HIV prevention services have focused almost exclusively on individuals are who are not infected, providing information and services on how to protect oneself from transmission of the virus. LFA is working to identify programs that focus on individuals who are already living with HIV and to outline the essential elements of an Prevention for Positives intervention that can be replicated.

Project: HIV Prevention Services SCAN (System Capacity Assessment by Neighborhood)

The San Francisco HIV Prevention Planning Council and the San Francisco Department of Public Health AIDS Office contracted with LFA to conduct an assessment of HIV prevention services in the Bayview/Hunter's Point and Tenderloin neighborhoods of San Francisco. The purpose of this project is to identify gaps in HIV prevention services for high-risk populations and to determine opportunities for HIV prevention services to be integrated into other health and social service programs.

Project: Research and Technical Assistance for the 2001 California HIV Prevention Plan

LFA conducted research for the development of the 2001 California HIV Prevention Plan, including gathering and analyzing data on the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS in California and key comparison states and analyzing qualitative data on prevention needs and strategies among identified target populations.

Technical Assistance to HIV Prevention Providers

LFA is providing technical assistance to HIV prevention providers that contract with the San Francisco Department of Public Health AIDS Office. This technical assistance is focused on helping HIV prevention providers build their capacity to collect and report on data required by the CDC while at the same time enhancing their ability to use information for their own organizational development and continuous program improvement.
