The Hunters Point Family (HPF) agency is comprised of four holistic, youth serving organizations in San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point: GIRLS 2000, Bayview Safe Haven, Brothers Against Guns and the Peacekeepers. Executive Director Lena Miller, a native and resident of Hunter’s Point, founded HPF in 1998 to help at-risk youth in her community to become independent, strong, and productive adults through comprehensive support services that empower them to develop their full potential. HPF provides computer classes, academic tutoring, literacy classes, therapeutic counseling, career mentoring, field trips, art projects, cooking classes, health and nutrition education, recreation, community gardening and beautification, employment and life skills workshops to participating youth. HPF contracted with LFA to co-produce a comprehensive source document for the agency model and programs. The goal of this work is to establish the HPF model, disseminate best practices, and help other organizations build high-quality effective programs to help improve the lives of youth.
