LFA has been hired by Environmental Volunteers to evaluate a three-year pilot environmental education program being implemented in the East Palo Alto Charter School (EPACS). This program is designed to provide EPACS students in grades 2-5 with an in-depth and multi-faceted natural science educational experience. A comprehensive evaluation of this program will assist the Environmental Volunteers in its goal of understanding outcomes for the students involved in the program experience, and documenting the structure and effectiveness of the model for dissemination and replication in other East Palo Alto schools and beyond. From the perspectives of the fields of evaluation and environmental education, this project offers a truly rare and much-needed opportunity to conduct a rigorous outcomes study of an environmental education program solidly built on current known and accepted best practices in environmental education.
