Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum
Evaluation of the Asian and Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network

The Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum engaged the services of LFA to conduct an evaluation of Asian Pacific Islander Tobacco Education Network (APITEN) activities. LFA conducted a survey of current and past Network members, all of whom are organizations doing tobacco control work statewide with Asian Pacific Islander communities. The web-based survey and interviews with health department representatives, nonprofit leaders, and activists in the field focused on the effectiveness of APITEN’s advocacy campaigns, advocacy trainings, translation assistance, and technical assistance in providing culturally and linguistic appropriate materials aimed at reducing smoking among Asian Pacific Islander communities. LFA will continue working with APIAHF on their anti-smoking advocacy evaluations beginning in January 2005, when planning begins on an advocacy campaign in Orange County to increase the number of smoke-free faith-based organizations serving Asian Pacific Islander communities.

API Wellness Center/API American Health Forum
Assessment of API HIV CBA

The Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum are the two lead agencies of a national partnership of organizations which provide capacity-building assistance (CBA) to community-based organizations (CBOs) which provide HIV/AIDS services to A&PI populations. Wellness Center and the Health Forum have hired LFA to conduct a long-term assessment (2004-2008) of this partnership’s ability to provide CBA to its clients. CBA services cover the following CDC-designated focus areas: organizational development; program development; community mobilization; and community planning. The evaluation includes surveys and key informant interviews administered to CBA recipients, as well as online tracking of CBA activities. This evaluation will feed information back to the partnership about their effectiveness in enhancing the service delivery capacity of CBOs, in mobilizing communities to lessen the stigma of HIV/AIDS in A&PI populations, and in making the A&PI voice heard in the HIV community planning process.
